Australian contemporary jeweller and metal-smith Meghan O'Rourke has been designing and making jewellery for nearly ten years. She has always enjoyed experimenting with material and the process of making, and it was this initial desire to create that first lead her to jewellery making.
After several years experience working in the retail jewellery industry, Meghan completed a three year Bachelor in Visual Arts and Design at Adelaide Centre For The Arts, where she specialized in jewellery. As of 2006 she has been based at the prominent JamFactory Metal Design Studio as an associate designer, from where she is continuing to develop her private jewellery practice.
Inspired by her natural environment Meghan has created items based on botanical specimens, plants, aquatic environments through to shadows and reflections. Infused with gorgeous colours and unique embellishments, her range is both playful and ornate.
Meghan has developed a style of working that is strongly material and technique orientated which utilizes the fascinating optical effects of titanium. She achieves the vivid colours in her work through the anodizing of aluminium and works intuitively often letting the process determine the final appearance of the piece.
A selection of Meghan's work can be found in store at Aspects of Kings Park.
